Reserve & Capacity Markets
When baseload power supply reaches ist economical limits the reserve and capacity markets are the regulated or merchant mechanisms to trade peak demands or provide anciliary services to ensure a reliable, stable grid and energy supply as demanded. The long duration energy storage infrastructure of CellCube is the perfect sustainable and green solution which fits both to the new renewable generation technology but also the operational heavy use requirements for batteries from the established markets and key players of the industry.
Green Peaking Plants
Peaking capacity today is still provided by combustion engines with high carbon emission impact. A long duration storage from CellCube reduces the carbon footprint signaficantly. When combined with renewables a Green Peaking Plant is born.
Though conventional peaker plants can offer energy at LCOE they have relatively poor energy efficiency as well as high carbon emissions. The challenge is two-fold: In many countries such combustion engines starts to get penalized by efficiency and emission regulations. In addition renewable generation becomes a low cost energy which puts current peaker plants under pressure.
Enhance current peaker plants with 4 hour storage to optimize operation and lower fuel costs
Enhance solar installations with 2-8 hour storage solution to allow firm capacity bids in merchant market of peaker plants
Expand capacity on each site’s fixed interconnection power limit. Increase value by enabling time-shifting, capacity firming, and enhanced grid integration. Common peaker plants can just be regulated in terms of more or less power output of the peaker plant. CellCube offers the huge benefit to operate as both power source and sink and therefore doubles the rated power. For example a 50 MW gas peaker plant can only operate between 10 MW and 50 MW. Thinking of a 50 MW CellCube solution that can operate between 50 MW power supply and 50 MW power consumption, makes a 100 MW oparation band.
Heavy Duty Cycling for Power Pools
The currently used Lithium technology in merchant markets gets killed quickly when multicycling per day or must be heavily oversized to avoid warranty harms. A CellCube does not only offer a full 100% SOC level usage without oversizing but also more than 10 cycles per day without harming the system within its 20+ years lifetime.
The competitive advantage in the merchant market of energy supplier and traders is driven by flexibility of their installed assets or offtake agreements. Though energy storage has been accepted as important asset, flexibility requirements are moving towards energy centric and more than 2 cycles per day which is not supported by current lithium based storage.
CellCube's Vanadium Redox-Flow Battery allows a heavy duty cycling of more than 10 cycles per day without harming warranties.
More opportunities to participate in the energy market. Nothing limits a business case more than a weak technical solution with restriction in cycling, idle times or temperature conditions. Take CellCube on board for a stable and reliabe solution, forget those restriction problems and fulfill your business case without thinking of loss of lifetime or huge unforeseen expansion of O&M costs.
Grid Constraint Management
The increasing distributed generation puts the power grid under stress and new transmission and distribution lines are needed over the next decades. A long duration storage from CellCube reduces or postpones investments by balancing between demand and supply while stabalizing the grid at the same time.
Imbalance between demand and supply need to be minimized to stabelize the grid by avoiding frequency fluctuation
Power demand exceeds installed grid capacity and new lines must be built which takes several years from planning to permission to installed
CellCube batteries are stabilizing the grid by discharge or charge within milliseconds when the frequency fluctuations occurs.
One Cellcube simultaneously delivers: frequency response, peak shift, T&D deferral, capacity firming, and load following. Simply spoken, a CellCube guarantees you a stable grid, without huge investments into grid expansion or thinking of deferrals that are leading into more expensive upgrades in the future. Placed at the distribution or transmission level, the CellCube delivers all possible ancillary or grid-supporting functions on an affordable way.
